The "Dimensional Rift" ability, while situational, does allow for interesting ways of interacting with distant targets. Get dragged behind an animal (or barbarian) and you're good to go.īoggle (Volo's Guide to Monsters, page 128) īoggle oil allows for a decent grappler and can restrain creatures. The only thing stopping this monster from devastating a combat is its 5ft movement speed. The Red Flower is a basic attack, grapple, and a few d4's worth of poison damage. Failing another saving throw from this flower adds another 5 damage per turn. If a lot of water is nearby or it is raining, then this attack is useless, otherwise the target is taking 5 Acid damage per turn with no way to stop it if they fail this saving throw. After that minute they get to make a saving throw. Failing an Orange Flower saving throw removes a creature from the fight for 1 minute. As the DC increases from the Sidekick leveling up eventually an enemy is going to fail one of those saves and it only takes 1 to start dealing extreme damage to a target. The slow speed (5ft) isn't very fast, but those 3 flower attacks are no joke. Tri-Flower Frond (Tomb of Annihilation, page 234) Normally this DC 11 Wis save wouldn't be a big deal, except with a Sidekick Class their ability scores and proficiency bonus increases as they level, which greatly increases its usefulness. Being able to talk is the only requirement. There's no cost to activating or deactivating this ability. Oh, and "Dire Cacophony" causes creatures to lose the ability to take the Dash Action, they cannot climb, and can't cast any spells other than a cantrip, until the start of their next turn. Works once a day.ĭire Corby (Mordenkainen's Fiendish Folio Volume 1 Monsters Malevolent and Benign, page 7) Īdvantage on Wisdom Perception checks from Keen Hearing. Magical Gift gives one humanoid of your choice a Supernatural Charm from the Chapter 7 of the DMG chosen by the DM. Natural Shelter gives you a lot of protection against damage if you're outside in nature. Combine this with Bestow Curse or Vicious Mockery to really hurt a target's ability to roll. "Blood Boiling Hex (Recharge 6)." Target subtracts a d6 from any attack roll, ability check, and saving throw from the d20 roll. Free reaction attack when attacked by a metal weapon. Khargra (Mordenkainen's Fiendish Folio Volume 1 Monsters Malevolent and Benign, page 12) ĭestroy enemy armor. The geonid can also determine the number of creatures of each type, but not their identities. The geonid touches a stone object or surface and knows what types of creatures have been within 10 feet of that stone in the past 24 hours. Geonid (Tortle Package, page 22) įor when you want to be have some of the abilities of a 17th level Knowledge Domain Cleric at level 1. You are still rolling death saves, but you are still in the fight. Which means that when you drop to zero hit points, you don't fall Unconscious. Upsides: You are immune to a lot: Blinded, deafened, charmed, exhaustion, frightened, grappled, paralyzed, petrified, poisoned, prone, restrained, stunned, and to top it all off unconscious.

Downsides: You need magic that allows you to move between the planes to get stuff out of yourself. Living Demiplane (Icewind Dale Rime of the Frostmaiden, page 299)įor when you want to literally be the party's bag of holding. Has anybody tried running a Sidekick Class as a character? Anything I should be aware of before letting it be an option?Įdit: The Sidekick Class from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything on page 142Įdit #2, two days later: Might as well go into other monsters that are now playable pc's. It also looks like it's one of the few ways in 5e to be a tiny or large sized creature at level one without magic. Or a Shadow searching for it's revived body.Ĭould go even crazier with a spellcasting blink dog, warrior myconid, a modron, mephit, crawling claw, death's head, juvenile mimic, tri-flower frond, Ooze-Folk, a swarm, or a normal animal. A character that's a Podling sent on missions by their Bodytaker Plant. It does allow for some interesting rp options.
